Most large libraries carry automotive databases. If you live in the area they serve, you may be able to access the database from your home computer, free. Also, the autozone site has a free database, you will need to register your vehicle, but, it is free. You'll have to surf their site to get the hang of it.

My info shows your still obd1, if so, you can access trouble codes yourself. With the key in the on position, place jumper wire between terminals A & B, the check engine lite starts flashing, you count the flashes to get the codes.

Hello everyone,

New to the board and haven't found what I'am looking for with a search so here goes.
1995 Grand Am SE, 98K miles, Quad 4 2.3L, all Original with ignition switch replaced in 2002.

Problem we are having is one day in January the car would not start until later that day when the weather warmed up (Idaho). Not sure how warm it was that day but the car fired right up.

Yesterday in the morning the wife tried to start the car, it would turn over but not fire, it was about 35 deg. F. Later in the day I tried it at 44 deg. F. And the car turned over and fired right up. Now today the same thing, right now it's 33 deg. F. And the car won't start.

This seem to be an intermittent problem, as on other cold days it starts and will run fine. I have checked with my scanner (INNOVA 3120 OBD 1 & 2) and there are no codes that have been thrown for the scanner to pickup. Just to make sure the scanner was working I pulled the MAP connection and scanned the engine and got a DTC34 code so I know the scanner is working.

I have tried to do a Fuel Pressure check but there is no FPR (Schrader) valve to chuck a pressure gauge with.

TIA
JD

My car did the same thing and it was the fuel pump. Replaced the pump and filter and it started right up.

Okay, so I have a 1999 pontiac grand am.
I was driving my car the other day, and it just died. I got it started back up, but it immediately died. It did this twice.
We had to tow my car home.
Anyways. It will not start, but it turns over really well like it wants to.
When I turn my key to the on position, I can hear the fuel pump kick in. I was told it may be my fuel filter, or in the electrical system? But I dont know.
I know it is not my ignition switch. We went and had it tested at auto zone, and it works.
I need a professional outlook on this.

Have the fuel pressure checked. Fuel pumps are common failures. You may hear the pump but it does not mean it is putting the correct pressure to the rail

Depends on FI system, sequential should have 1 fuse for each.

Ok well I dont know the terminology or stuff like that. But I was driving home and speedometer went down to 40 when I was going 50 and it seem to kinda stop for a second then go back to speed. Then it ended up stalling three times and wouldnt start. Now it starts but after a little bit. Whats wrong with it?

That is a good one. The speedo is run by a vehicle speed sensor, but that shouldn't affect the engine. What you need to do is determine if there is spark and fuel to the engine. Directions for both are on our homepage under the DIY section. If the engine won't start, one will be missing. Once you determine which is missing, then you can focus on that system. Fuel pump or ignition. After the vehicle is running again, if the speedo still continues to act up, check the vehicle speed sensor on the transmission to see if the connection is clean and tight, the wiring is good, and if the sensor is good.

Water is getting into the engine or fuse compartment, probably through some worn weather stripping, shorting out a connector.

Inspect the weather stripping and after rain stops, look for any water on engine electrical components.
