There is an oil pump o ring seal that sits in the front of the engine just behind the timing belt. We see them leak from there all the time.

Here is a guide and some diagrams to help you get the problem fixed.

My car was running awesome and without any indication of problems no check engine light or strange sound or anything I mean it was running fabulous. I was on my way to work and as I turned into the parking lot my engine started smoking like it was on fire and oil went everywhere what would cause this?

Hello,

This sounds to me like you have a bad gasket somewhere on your engine. It should be fairly simple to see where the oil is coming from. Look for a concentration of oil, this is where the gasket has failed. Please get back to us where it is, or even upload a picture of where the leak is and we can go from there.

Thanks,
Alex

The oil leak could be numerous things
-oil pan
-cam seal
-crank seal
-oil filter
-oil pressure switch
etc.

You will have to clean the area off and run the vehicle to help locate the leak.

I have an 89 accord that I just replaced the water pump. The antifreeze leak stopped but now I have a bad oil leak. I dont understand what I could have done to make it leak that much oil. It never leaked a drip before I changed the water pump.

I have a 1988 Honda accord DX 121K on it
(1) and I have a major oil leak the car needs about a quart in 10 days maybe 15 days and also when im stoped at lights I see burning oil out of the driver side wheel area (not the hood).

(2)it sounds to me (a either or) the valve is stuck or the lifter is knocking not to sure so here it goes I feel it to the touch of the valve cover the knocking feel when at idle of course and when driving it knocks so much faster you dont hear it. Accept when I let off the gas and roll to a stop I hear it also.

What I kinda wanted to know how much do you think it would cost in repairs or would it be better iff done at home or what and thank you very much for your help.

First of all where is the oil leaking from. It sounds as though it is leaking and finding its way to the exhaust system where it is burned off causing the smoke. Second, I would pull off the valve cover and look for anything loose and anything not connected or not supposed to be in there. Is there oil in the plug holes?

Get a valve cover gasket and pull that head off. Check the valve train assembly for any loose items and any foreign materials floating around.

First check where the leak its coming from could be just a loose oil filter or drain bolt.

I listened to the tractor running. That is what it sounds like. Try a couple of things. Look down when the engine is running along the side of the engine where the belts run. Look at all of the pulleys and make sure that the harmonic balancer is running smooth and true. It should have no wobble to it at all. With the engine off, grab the harmonic balancer, the big pulley off the crankshaft and be sure it is not loose.

If that wasn't the problem, take a big screw driver and with the engine running put the blade against the engine and your ear to the handle. Listen. Move the screwdriver around on the engine, valve cover, side and determine if there is a section of the engine that is worse than any other.
