Car stalling while driving?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

The traction control unit is designed to limit power in the event of slipping. However, it should not stall the engine.

Have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? That is the first thing I would suggest. Here is a quick video showing how a scanner is used to retrieve that information:

Often times, a traction control issue is the result of a faulty wheel speed sensor. However, it needs scanned to determine if that is the problem and which sensor it the cause.

I realize most people do not own a scanner. However, most parts stores will do it for free.

Do this and let me know what you find.

Take care,
Joe

Car turns off while driveing. It appears that the rpms go up before it happens. The last time it happened, I put the car in drive and in seem to jerk into gear. I am able to restart after it shuts off

We have a 2001 Cavalier with almost 174000 miles on it. Recently it has developed a problem that seems to occur at intermittent times. It always starts when it is cold, but after it warms up, without any advanced warning it will stall and not restart. When we go to restart it it will fire and try to run but acts like it doesnt have just quite enough fuel to keep running. After we sit and try to restart it multiple times, all of the sudden it will fire right up like nothing ever happened and go again. Today it did this and when it restarted it went about 500 ft and stalled again, then restarted in about 10 minutes, then went about 5 miles and stalled while we travelling at highway speed, so we coasted to almost a stop and I cranked it over and it restarted right away. The other day it stalled and took us about 1/2 hour of trying and suddenly it restarted like nothing was wrong and ran fine for our 12 mile trip back home. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated and Thank you in advance!

Have you been able to check for spark and fuel to the engine when it doesn't start? Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked fuel pump pressure?

My car has stalled four times when I just driving along. This may even be related to an engine mechanical problem also. Please advise
