Car dies when put into gear

Chevy cavlair 1991 172987 miles 2.2 4 cyc eng car runs good but when you put it in gear it dies is not timing because if does not do it all the time is there a sensor that could cause this problem : :idea:

just had same problem. Car still runs, just stop when put in gear, then when I let it sit an had car shut off a minute, it started up again.
Selinoid switch, inside tranny, just remove cover an it snps out an new one snaps right back in.
135.00 total, but that was to high could get for less.
