There's a place for four wires in that plug so it can be used in numerous different applications. When the original plug used only one wire, you use the same wire in the same location in the new plug and you just don't use the other wires. They can be cut off.
When you connect wires, the only acceptable method is to solder the splice, then seal it with heat-shrink tubing with hot melt glue inside. Never use electrical tape in a car. It will unravel into a gooey mess on a hot day.
Also be aware that due to their design, these generators have a very high failure rate. To reduce the number of repeat failures, you must replace the battery at the same time unless it is less than about two years old.
