2000 Cadillac Deville Battery or alternator

When the weather started getting cold, I would go out in the morning , start the car, and after a few seconds, the battery light would come on and a message pops up and says "battery not charging" and another one would say "check charging system". I would drive about a mile and all messages went away. Today, same thing, but after driving a mile, the headlights were really dim and dashboard lights went out, so I turned around and came home. Battery or alternator problem?

Some of the national brand autostores will check the charging system for you. Some of these stores will make house calls if you have a store in your community.

If you have a digital multimeter, you can do some testing, yourself.

Just a thought, check the serpentine belt. Check for applicable trouble codes. About all I can do if help you do some testing.
