2000 Audi A4 96940 miles

A friend of mine towed his Audi to my house for me to fix, it would not start so he had the starter replaced, it worked fine for about a week then one day when he was driving it just shut off and would not start. It sounds like it is trying to turn over but will not catch. The dash lights come on but the battery light stays on, the battery in this car isnt that old, but when hooked to a jump box, it will not jump off. Any suggestions as to what it might be?

Hi mddtm,

You need to isolate the cause of the problem.
1. Check/test for sparks at plugs when cranking.
2. Remove air intake hose and pump some starting fluid into throttle body and try to start.
Test for fuel pressure at fuel rails.
3. Do a compression test if both the above don't work.
