A very Loud compression noise was made when starting the car after touching the timing belt? The car will not start now. The thermostat housing was replaced but I think the timing was incorrect. Can anyone suggest ANY PROBLEMS THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS?

If the timing belt was taken off, tools were required to set cam & crank
timing, as well as a puller to free the cam sprockets so that they can
spin freely for timing belt placement & tensioning.

If none of that was done, engine damage may have occurred.

2.4l V6? Not a 2.8l V6? Where are you located?
