Hello again, I finally found a mechanic who fixed my problem. It was not vacuum related, every mechanic I talked to led me and you to believe!
The Toyota dealership who replaced the carburetor told me that it was a vacuum leak that they could not identify. Which is what brought me to you guys.
Please tell me if this sounds right:
This mechanic said that "there were 3 electrical connections to the carb, two hot and one ground. One hot was to the choke. The hot to the choke was connected to the ground and the ground was connected to the choke. So, the choke would not work." Is this accurate? And is it possible to connect a ground to a positive and a positive to a ground on the carburetor without it arcing out? And the engine still starts and runs?
Whatever the case, my truck is now running like the day it was new (or better). Getting at least 45+ MPG! That's right. I said 45+ miles per gallon, this is not a typo. The mileage was 363,400 when I filled up the 10-gallon tank. I am now at 363,845 with about a quarter of a tank still to go. So, what was the expected gas mileage for a 1987 toyota pickup 22r with a 5 speed transmission? This is unbelievable!
So obviously, my problem was the choke due to a wiring connection.
Again, I want to thank you for all of your dedicated help on this matter. I hope to get a detailed reply from you so that I can go back to the dealership about this.
