Spins over fine, just doesn't fire. In the twenty years I have owned it, I have never heard the fuel pump make noise, so that suggestion won't help. It started this a few weeks back. Checked forums and one suggestion was hold down the gas petal and spin away, eventually it will fire. That worked for a time, now it does not. No hits on the code reader.

Hi,

If you have a crank no start condition, it is usually a fuel or ignition-related issue. Since there are no codes, my first suspect is the crankshaft position sensor. It can fail without setting a code, but there are a few tests to determine the cause.

First, see if it will start if you use starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, it is likely the pump. If there is no change, we need to check if the plugs are getting spark. If there is no spark, my first suspect is the crankshaft position sensor.

If there is no spark and your scan tool has live data, check to see if there is an RPM signal when cranking. If there isn't, replace the sensor.

The sensor is on the passenger side behind the cylinder head mounted in the engine block. I attached the directions for replacing it.

Let me know.

Joe

I shot starter fluid into it, and it fired. Now to the fuel pump and its replacement. I watched several how two videos on YouTube and will begin when I get the part in hand. Thanks much for your help.

Hi,

Thanks for the update. I had a feeling it was one or the other. As far as the pump is concerned, the fuel tank needs to be removed. If there is a lot of fuel in it, it will be heavy. You should drain it if possible. I often do these with the vehicle on the ground and use a floor jack and a 2x6 to hold the tank while I remove the straps and then lower the jack slowly while guiding the tank down. The 2x6 goes between the tank and the floor jack to prevent damage to the tank.

I don't know if you need them, but I attached the directions from the manual for tank removal and then for pump replacement. Take a look through them and let me know if you have questions or if I can help in any way.

Note: I would start spraying the retaining bolts with a good penetrating fluid. Do it each day until the parts come. Otherwise, they may drive you crazy and break.

Take care,

Joe
