You need to run a diagnostic code check and see what codes are set, this will indicate what is at fault, run the scan. If the lights are on, there will be codes set. You will have to get a scanner that will read the SRS and traction control systems, simple generic scanners may only cover engine codes. It sounds like the clock spring behind the steering wheel is out but to be sure lets run the codes by following this video.

You cant turn off the light. unfortunately you have to fix the problem. every time you start your car it does a entire check on your srs system and if there is a problem the light will remain on.

here is how you get the codes to see whats wrong

Hi smithron1944,

Thank you for the donation.

When the airbag indicator shows, an error in the airbag system has been detected and you need to retrieve the trouble code to find out which component is malfunctioning.

The cost would depend on what needs to be done.

Would you be able to perform basic diagnostics if I provide you with the procedures? Air bags systems are sensitive and accidental deployment can happen if mistakes are made.

My airbag light in dashboard came on and stays on. I was asked by a relative of mine who had same problem, if my horn still blows and I said yes. He said he took his vehicle to a mechanic that told him it was the Clock Spring located in the steering wheel that needed to be replaced. He ordered one from Amazon and paid $50.00 for it. The mechanic replaced it for him and that fixed the problem. Can I assume that is what is causing mine to stay on because his vehicle was not a 2004 Camry four cylinder with 220,000 miles like my car but his is a Toyota?

Good morning,

No, you cannot assume it at all.

There is a fault code set for the system and you need to get the fault code read so we can narrow the area of failure.

It would be an expensive guess if it is not.

A part store and read the code for free. When you get the code, let me know so we can continue.

Roy

I have a 1996 Toyota Camry. It has the airbag light on. I accidentally pulled out the SRS fuse and the light came on. The airbags have not been deployed. How can I reset the airbag light without going to the dealer and spending money? I tried to take the battery out and it still didn't work, the negative and positive/ negative for one day each.

Thanks
Syed Javed

You don't clear the codes when the system is working they clear themselves. Here is a video to help see what's going on. 0 times out of 10 it will e the clock spring behind the steering wheel.

Get a scan done just to check what the code is, also make sure that the fuse was not blown, test it with a multi meter just to be sure.

You can't just re set the light, this is a fault code and the problem must be fixed first, the code will identify the problem, doing a re set will do nothing, the light will come on straight away, what is the code, get a scan done and tell me so I can assist.
