I've been driving with a loose muffler for about 2 months, not good I realize. But the initial problem started before that. My car normally idles around 800 rpm. For about a year it's been idling around 2400 rpm more and more frequently. Yesterday I had to start the car twice and then it began idling at around 500 rpm and even stalled driving down the street. Again today it's idling very low, not much power like it wants to quit. I appreciate any help, Thanks.

On those cars the intake gasket leaks alot around the 1 or 2 cyclinder vaccuum causing stalling and poor idling I would start there get some carb spray start the car up let it idle and spray the carb spray around the intake gasket the one and two intake port is by the power steering pump. Also the little s shaped hose going from the valve cover to the intake those get soft and holes in them so check that too. Do u have a any trouble codes?Let me know what u find.

If your car is idling its self up, like you are hitting the gas it should be the fast idle sensor. There is another name for it but not sure what it is. But and shop should know what you are talking about. The part is like 40 to 50 bucks at Auto Zone.
