1996 Saturn SL1 exhaust question

1996 Saturn SL1 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1996 Saturn SL1 and what i believe is the exhaust bracket (welded around the muffler and attached to car) has rusted off on one side. So it is half attached to the car. Is this a necessary part for the car or can i take it off and not worry about replacing it? will my muffler fall off? thank you!

That bracket hold's the weight of the muffler and the muffler in place.Without it the muffler and exhaust are going to bag around and the muffler could break off.Just replace it.
