OK, so here it is. I was able to get to the fast idle adjustment located on the passenger side of the carb. It's very tight but if you unplug a small vacuum line located just in front of it you can get a torx fitting with a small ratchet on the adjustment screw and turn it. I made a rough estimate with the engine off and then had to go back in and turn it up a little. I may have to do it again after I check the cold start in the morning.
I greased all the linkages this time. You suggested lubricating them early on when I reported the cold start fast idle hanging up. I used penetrating oil the first time and apparently it didn't last.
Now, I'm pretty sure it's running rich. Aside from the telltale smell, if I close off the choke on the primaries it stalls almost immediately. But getting to the two mixture adjustment screws in the front looks like it could be a problem. There's a rat's nest of plumbing and wiring blocking the view and I'm pretty sure the engine won't run if I disconnect everything that's in the way. Is there a procedure or do I need a special tool (a snake driver, perhaps) that will get the job done?
Thanks,
