I have an 1989 Plymouth voyeger 4 cyc. At first I would be driving and all of a sudden it would just cut out. I would pull over and try to start it. It would crank but not start. I then left it got a ride to work when I went to pick it up I got in it tried to start it and it started up. It workded for a couple of days then it would do it again. Some times it wouldn't start for days then out of the blue it would start. It recently passed inspection and I even took it in they could'nt find anything wrong with it. It never died on the mechanic when he took it out, but as soon as I took it home and parked it the next morning it would not start. I told them if it could be the fule pump and they told me they checked it. How do I stop this game my car is playing on me. There is no sputtering or coughing when it shuts down it just quits dead flat. Please help Im a teacher who just spent all my savings fighting cancer and I can't afford another vehical.

Welcome to the forum, you need to do some testing, when the vehicle refuses to start. Have a helper crank it, while you check for spark at the plugs. Pull plug boot, stick known good plug in boot, lay metal part of plug to metal part of engine, engine cranking, watch for spark at tip of plug. If you have good spark everywhere, check fuel pressure. If your tbi, look for an injector spray pattern, engine cranking? If no spark and no injector action, when the problem occurs, I'd look for an rpm signal. How long since a tune-up?
