I recently posted a question about a broken timing belt and whether there woiuld be engine damage if just the pulley broke and not the belt itself. I took the car to Mitsubishi dealer where the timing belt, both pullleys, and gaskets were changed as preventative maintenance at 64000 miles. 5 days ago, the bolt that holds the pulley bracket broke (flush with the engine hole), the pulleyflew off, and then the belt came off (not broken, just off). Now mitsubishi is telling me that they did not remove the bracket when they replaced the pulley so it isn't their responsibility to fix. Is it true that a timing belt, both pulleys, and all the other labor intensive work can be done without loosening or removing the bolt that holds the tensioner pulley to the bracket?
