I read through the directions and understand your confusion. I will try to explain what I believe everything leads to.

Flag” may be sent along with the regular (unlabeled) trouble codes. The computer sends Information Flags to help you find the cause of a trouble code. Interestingly, the cause of a flag will not turn on the check engine light, so it comes on specific to the codes that turned it on and it could be related to. In this case, the 26 indicates the TCC is stuck on, so you can see how the flags can be related. Without physically checking wiring to and at the TCC, I have to assume that there is a short to power which is constantly feeding power to the TCC.

I attached 4 pics below. The idea that codes 26 has turned on the light, all the flags are for is indicating what is listed in pics 3 and 4 can be the cause. Without a scanner, you can't check if flags exist. Ugh! We need you to get your hands on an OBD1 scanner.

Interestingly, everything is tied into the TCC. Without the scanner, the best we can do is check wiring.

I hope this makes sense. Let me know.

Joe

Thanks for the info Joe. I will get into it again tomorrow. Got a little discouraged there for a minute thanks for sending more helpful info on the issues. Will the scanner that I pictured below do the trick? I also picture ld the connector.

Marc, cars are frustrating, and with this issue, it is a seek and find. I totally understand how a person can get discouraged. Trust me, you're not alone. LOL Just to make things a bit more interesting, the flags are Saturn specific which makes information even less available. LOL

As far as the picture, nothing was attached.

Let me know and hang in there. Note that since I said I suspect a short to power, I am basing that on the TCC 26 code that it is locked on.

Take care.

Marc, I'm not sure. I believe that scanner plugs directly into the data link connector. Is the connector recommended? Also, is there a description of what the scanner can check or do?

It sounds like it will read what is needed. However, the cable seems to be an adapter to connect an OBD2 scanner to an OBD1 system. I have no idea if or how that works. My obd2 doesn't identify obd1 codes, so I'm not sure how it would work. I'm not saying it won't, but I just never used one before.

Hi Joe, good news is my car is shifting like a champ now consistently as well. No problem there. I'm going to chalk this up to the PCM relearning all what was going on for so long with the VSS. But really transmission working very well now. On the SES light only I am getting an intermediate light code of 26 and occasionally 32. I'm going to change out the EGR/solenoid and check the purge solenoid as well if I do in fact have one. Do I?
Thanks

Hi,

There is one. If you look at pic 1, it shows location. Let me know if this helps.

I'm glad to hear the trans is working properly. You take care and let me know if I can help in any way. Also, I hope you are doing well (with everything that is going on).

Take care of yourself.
