Three days ago, we were driving about 30 mph, the car just stopped, It acted like it wanted to start but wouldnt. We had it towed home, I replaced the fuel pump, still did the same thing, then I had a mechnic look at it and the timing belt came off in his hands. We re placed that. Last night we went to the store. Drove fine. This morning I went to start it and it is doing the same thing acting like it will turn over but wont start.I opened the radiator, it was almost empty filled it with water and still wont start can anyone out there please help?

Hi michaelmd,

Did you test for sparks?
Since the coolant level was empty, hope it is not a bad gasket. Get a compression test done.
I would suggest getting a scanner to retrieve for trouble codes.

It can be may other things but we should start with the basics.

Common faults for water pumps would be leakages. Check under the water pump and around the area for signs of coolants, indicating leaks.

It is possible for the timing belt to have skipped but if the engine runs well when it is started, then that would not be the cause. However that would have to be looked into as well.

We started having trouble with battery, had to jump it to start it after setting for more than a couple of hours. Went to the store and car would not shut off even with the key out. Drove it back home and still would not shut off. Pulled the fuse for the main computer and car shut off. Put the fuse back in and the car would not start at all. Nothing
Took the battery to the parts store and it was dead. Bought a new battery and put it in and car still will not start. We have power and lights and dings. But nothing when we turn the key
then when we take the key out it starts clicking and all the dash lights come on. We have to disconnect the battery to get this to stop. It dose not start this until we connect the battery and turn the key and take it out.
One more note to concider is there is an after market security system on the car with remote start
it is a viper 550. We haven't used the remote start in over 5 yrs. And we stopped using the security system because the doors locks sometimes stick
Please help us

Hi Dawn,

Thank you for the donation.

The problem seems to be from the ignition switch. The contacts inside the switch has gone haywire and when you want to turn off, the contacts are not releasing.

When you want to crank, the starter circuit is not working. While driving, charging is not being done due to open circuit to battery.

I would suggest checking/testing/replacing the ignition switch.

The HOLD indicator ligh flashing indicates an error has been detected in the transmission control system and that is to warn the driver. A scanner would be required to retrieve the trouble code.

I was driving down th road and al of a sudden I was pressing o the gas and it just would not go an faster. Finally the whoe car just cut off. My radio was still on because its connected straight to the battery so I know its not my battery. I tried to start it back up and it was kinda turning over but wouldnt start up. I dunno if its my starter. Or my feul pump. Can you help me?

If it shut off, the starter didn't cause it. Have you checked fuel pump pressure?

I have a kia sportage that will not keep communication with my scanner. When you first connect it, it will read, but after you try to start the engine it keeps flashing between no communicaion and collecting data. I went and bought a used computer and installed it but still the problem continues. What should I do?

Have it block and pressure tested-Possibilities here : could be the headgasket, cracked head or block or an intake leak-
