I'm not sure what Transmission it has off hand. As for the OSS PID it didn't do anything or show anything at all, while the VSS was moving up and down. Just so you know, I attached the chitons page I was looking at. So, if it didn't show anything does that mean it's the sensor?

Perfect. That is what I attached the last time as well, so we are on the same page.

Correct. If it didn't move at all then that is the cause of the code as the code is telling you that the PCM didn't get any signal from the sensor when the other one was showing RPM.

Normally this is a sensor but that is why we would do the rest of the testing because it could be a wiring issue or even a PCM issue but that is less likely.

Okay, I’ll chase it some more. So you’re saying now that it less likely to be PCM and more likely the sensor?

Sorry, I wasn't clear. None of this is definitive as to what the actual component is causing this on your vehicle. However, you have narrowed it down to the PCM, wiring, and sensor.

The far more common failure is the sensor but that does not mean your vehicle is doing something that is making me think the sensor is the issue more than the PCM. Just based on experience and the odds on which it is, the sensor is more common.

Hope that clarifies what I meant but to find out for sure, the rest of that testing needs to be done that you were looking at. Thanks

Hey, I just wanted to update you on this issue. I’m pretty sure it’s the OSS sensor. I then discovered it was internal to the transmission and realized I wasn’t going to be replacing it myself. So, I called a local transmission shop to get an idea of the cost and he said it was about 1600 for him to fix because it was part of the valve body, not a separate part. But he told me to call Ford first because they have a “customer satisfaction program” for this issue, which was something I’d never heard of. Anyway, the dealership is looking at it tomorrow and as long as the code is still present, and the VIN and mileage is what I told them they’ll take care of it.

Just wanted to let you know and thank you for your help.

Oh wow. I didn't know they had this either as I looked for TSBs and didn't see any. However, most likely this is just a known issue that they are sensitive to and will help when one fails, or I just missed the TSB.

However, I agree that this sounds like it as well. Thanks for the update and let us know what they find with this as I am sure that it will help others in the future.

Thanks
