1993 Honda Accord, 2.2L, Auto Transmission, 100,000 miles.

I was driving home one day when I noticed the gear selection lights on the dash display flicker a bit. The car was in Drive (automatic tranny). There was no change in the performance as I continued driving. I parked when I got home, and didn't think anything more of it.

When I tried to start it the next day, I noticed that the gear selection light on the dash display indicated the car was in Park and Drive, eventhough it was in Park. The car won't start unless it is in Park or Neutral. As I ran the shifter through each position, the respective light came on, however the Drive light remained on all the time. The car still would not start.

I removed the center console, and then removed the Neutral Safety Switch. When I turned the ingnition on, the Drive light still came on, and the car would not start. This makes me think that the issue is not a bad Neutral safety switch, but I guess I could still be wrong. Before I spend 68.99 for the new switch, is there anything else I'm forgetting? Why would my car still think it was in Drive without the safety switch telling it what gear it was in? Is there another switch on the tranny somewhere?

It's a solid running engine. Never had any issues before.

The obvious problem is the switch however some Hondas made in Japan have unusual lights light if a certain fuse is blown. Check all the fuses both inside and under the hood. If they are OK it sounds like the sw. Good Luck
