Hello, I am installing LED running board lights and need to find the wires to tap into the headlights/turn signal wires so they flash amber and stay on with headlights and turn signal and also need to tap into dome lamp lights wire to enable the courtesy door light feature so the lights light up white instead of amber when the door is open. From videos I have seen the wires are coming from the BCM plugs in the truck somewhere. I need to find what color wire and color plug harness I am looking for to tap into both correct wires please to complete my project. I want to use my test light on each wire pin to test for correct wire.

Couple things. Do you want the lights to stay on when the headlights are on and flash when the turn signal is on? Normally people pick one or the other or they just tie into the park lamp circuit because that should be on with the head lights and flash the turn signal.

The reason is, if you use the headlamps and turn signal then you are going to have to interrupt the power or ground for the headlamps to flash these LED's. It can be done but most people end up messing things up because it is pretty extensive.

If you want to test this you need to put your test light on the light blue and white wire on the BCM then turn the head lights on and it should illuminate then turn the left turn signal on. Then do the same on the dark blue and white wire for the right side.

Keep in mind the Left turn wire is on C5 and the right is on C4.

Let me know what questions you have and we can go from there.

Yes, exactly. I don't want to tap into the headlights themselves. Just the wire on the BCM that would make it able to use both while headlights are on and will work when I use turn signals. That would be just one wire to make that happen correct? Also what wore would I tap into for the dome lamp for the courtesy light feature? And i'm not good with diagrams so could you tell me the block color of the plugs that I would unplug to find both of these wires on the BCM. There's black and grey and other color blocks under the steering wheel column. Thank you so much for this help on my project.

Yes, that is correct. Left turn wire is on C5 and the right is on C4. The dome light is on C2 pin 5 color of Gray.

As for what color the connectors are on the BCM they don't provide that info. So I would remove the BCM and look on the case where the connectors plug in and they are normally labeled. At the minimum they may put C1 on there and then you just count over from there.

Get a picture of the back of the BCM and I will see if I can identify them as well. Worst case we can do it by looking at the connectors on the end and start matching them up to what C1 says it has for each cavity and wire color. Let me know and we can go this direction.

In fact, I just thought about it. Why don't you just remove one of the BCM connectors that is at one of the ends (preferably on the left when looking at it) and tell me what color wires you have on the top row. So with the connector release facing up. What are the wire colors that you have on the top row? I will compare those to the connectors and tell you which one that is and then we can find out what the others are from there. Take a look at the attachment for detail on what to look at.

If the connector you remove is light green in color then that could be C1 and it should have 27 connector slots. It does not have 27 wires just 27 places for wires.

Sorry for the delay. We don't work on these questions as a full time job so I was not able to get back to you until now. I just replied to the other post. Please reply to that one and we can identify these wires and keep it all together. Thanks

Okay, so I got the dome light wire, as you mentioned in our first conversation, I would like the LED strips to tap into my automatic headlamp switch and also act as turn signals. So will I have to tap into the headlamp or parking lamp wire with the red wires together from the kit and then [individually] tap into the right turn signal and left turn signal wires separate, or can I combine both turn signal wires and tap into a certain wire? The kit has black for ground, yellow for turn signal, white for dome light feature and red for parking lamp witch should work with my auto headlamp feature right because my headlamp switch is always on auto.

No. You should be able to just use the park lamp circuit. Can you confirm for me, maybe with a video if needed, but your park lamps on the front should blink when you put the turn signal on and they should be on with the headlamps. Is that correct? If it is, then you just need the power wire from your new lights to be tapped into the power wire of the park lamps. Then the ground wire can just go to any ground bolt.

As for the white dome wire from the kit, that needs to go to the power wire for the dome lights.

Let's just confirm your park lights operate as above and then I can draw a little diagram for how you need to wire this.

Okay, so today I found the both turn signal wires and dome light wire, and tested them all with my test light witch everything checked out great. Light green box is as you mentioned C1 and up to C2 etc. I got an email back from OPT7 telling me they have not heard of anyone installing the lights to just the parking lamp wire for the directional feature to work. However as you mentioned and asked I took a video to show when my larking lamps are turned on, they are also turn signals. So what you say makes sense as well that they should in theory work with just tapping into the parking light wire. So I am confused by there email and by the parking lights working as turn signals as well. I have a picture of the lights I bought witch shows from Amazon the 4 wires that are supposed to he connected for usage of these lights. I also have instruction page sent from OPT7 as well to show you and a video showing my parking lamps as turn signals as well. You were right about the parking lights as directions also. Here are photos and video. Thank you for getting back so quick the lights should be here tomorrow and i'm so close to understanding the process to set these up.

Okay. That is great. The left turn signal is on the BCM C5 pin 4 light blue/white. This connector appear to be brown.

Right turn is C4 pin 5 dark blue/white. Looks like C4 is a black connector

I attached the info on this. Let me know how it works out. Thanks

Okay. You said parking lamps and that is what the turn signal power wire is that I provided but I should have called that out. They are a combination bulb according to the wiring diagram.

So if you want head lamps then here is the BCM for the headlamps.

However, if you want each side to flash with the turn signals and be on with the park lamps then you need to be tied into the park lamps. I would just confirm this by using a test light and probe the wire and operate the lights and see if they do what you want the new lights to do. If so, just splice into it.
