See if you can rent or borrow a scan tool and scan it for fault codes. I'm thinking that the anti theft unit needs to be in the loop to keep it running, but that the unit you have may be defective.

Try resetting the alarm by unlocking the drivers door from the outside.

Thanks for using the site :-)

Ok. Well. It isnt my car and im not 100% sure of exactly what happens. But ehre it is.

First off, the car starts and works just fine but it SEEMS random as to when it happens, sometimes when I go to get in the remote will not work to unlock the doors at all, and if I unlock the driver side door, the alarm goes off and disables teh ignition. So I cant restart it. I found a temporary fix: take off the red battery wire under the hood, get in the car, turn on the key (like the battery) then go reconnect the red wire and then start the car. But the key will not turn off the alarm by trying to start, or unlocking the door and the cremote doesnt work when the problem happens. It is NOT the key(chip) because ive went and got 3 new keys, and ive also replaced the remote battery and the car battery. Any ideas anyone? Again this is a 1998 Ford Cobra Mustang

Thank you.

This is a shot in the dark you say you have had new key's made. But have you checked to see if you need to have your keyless remotes reprogramed? Or you possibly have a short in the drivers door where the wires come from the cab to the door there is a rubber boot where your doorlock wiring and power window wiring and all goes through. Dude not even sure I can put you on the right track with this one.(NOS)? Sometimes the get out of sync

Ok I need to know if your system is an active or passive system. To do this if you don't know you simply call the dealer with you vin number in hand and give them the vin and ask. Get back to me with what you have and I will get you the self diagnostic procedure to figure out what it going on. It may just a door jam switch who know's, but we can find out. Now use the pm button to get directly to me with a personal message and refresh me with what we are doing ok.

My 98 Mustang Car alarm has failed me I can set the alarm with the remote and in about 5 minutes or less the alarm goes off. I had a spare key made (one with out the chip) and I think someone used it to try to start the car to see if it would or not. Is there anyway to reset the car alarm? Please Help Thanks

Only way I know of is at Ford! One hour labor, and if you need a key get it there, they will program both.

My car alarm will go off when I'm sitting inside trying to get out. The car will be parked, and my boyfriend and I will go out to my car to smoke a cigarette. We will unlock the car by putting the key in the driver side door, I will then unlock his door from the inside. We get in and lock the doors. When we get out the alarm goes off often but not every time. I want to know what we are doing to trigger it sometimes? Does it have to do what order we open the doors, or is it because we unlock it from the inside to get out? I don't understand.

Try resetting security system if no manual look online. If it continues have a local pro scan for codes to see if anything is wrong with security system.
