I have a 98 Ford Mustang 3.8 automatic. I was told I may have a problem with the PATS system. My vehicle cranks but shuts off. I have done other maintenance from gaskets to altenator, starter, to sensors. How do I work around this problem or bypass the PATS. I only have one key don't have extras. Don't know if the problem is just the key or something I have to replace.

No trouble codes on ECU sent to get checked. Checked out good. Security light blinked the last time I took off ECU. Doesn't make any sense to me, since I've had this car forever and owner, don't wanna take it to dealer to pay thousands of dollars. Though of replacing the keys and cylinder insert or tumbler on steering wheel.

You can't bypass the security system and you need a very high end scan tool to be able to diagnose the problem.

Take the key to the dealer and get a key cyl. And 1 proper pats key. Then it needs to installed. The dealer will read your key. Then they cut 1 keys for the new cyl. With the correct pats code.I must have did 1000 cyls. In my years. When u get this before installing it. Plug it in insert the key in the new cyl. Than try to start it with the column cyl. If it starts u will need to install the key cyl. If not return the cyl. Check l and r front lock assy. There is a tamper switchs on both cyl. And 1 on the trunk cyl. They all need to be adjusted at the key. Cyl.

I suppose you could get real technical with a lab scope and meters if you had all the data specs but it's pretty much a scan tool to find out what's working.
