6.0 turbo diesel cranks but wont start. If you pump the gas pedal and hold it down sometimes it will start and run perfect. Fuel pump works and has good pressure. All fuses are good truck starts with starting fluid and runs perfect. Will not start without ether

Alright. Is there any check engine light codes that are coming up?

First off 6.0's had a problem with the dc/dc convertor in the FICM fuel injector control module failing. There is a technical service bulliten out on it. Good bet would be contacting a ford dealership and explain whats happening and see if they will cover it. If not we can try to go further in. Get back to me if you have a check engine light on and your able to get codes to me and post them in P**** format.

Thanks!

Truck sat for over a year, winter and summer. Now, it will not start. The diesel engine specs are listed above.

Hey Roger,

Does the engine crank over? Or it cranking over and not starting? It could be the battery has gone bad because they do not like to sit without being used.

Can you give us more details please so we can continue?

Best, Ken

On Sunday, I replaced the starter. Ran the truck all day Monday. On Tuesday morning, the truck started up just fine. Made a stop where I shut the engine off. The truck set for about an hour. Came back and went to start the truck, but no luck. The lights on the instrument panel light up fine. I the problem thought it might be the clutch switch. So I went to town to get the switch. When I returned I tried to the start the truck and it started up just fine. I pulled the truck out of our building and shut it off. Came back about five minutes later to leave and the truck would not start.

Hi I would check the terminals on the plug at the clutch switch. Also check the connection and connector on the starter solinoid. The batt cables and terminals clean and tight. If the prob is still there after all this. Then the ignition switch the electronic not key and tumbler. Is most likely bad or out of adjustment. Good luck billymac

Can you check for codes? I would start by pulling out the egr valve and making sure it is fully closed if not pound it shut put back in and start it. Put in a new egr valve if you find it excessivly carboned. If this is not it check for fuel getting in the secondary fuel bowl. Also do you have a reading on your oil pressure guage when cranking.

How did you determine the pcm was bad? Expensive guess.

The dealer can program it for you if it is the issue

what was the code?

Wasnt a guess we hook up our bidirectional scan tool got the code diagnostic it using alldata procedures did some testing and after back back checking everything else glow plug, fuses relays, Fuel module, injectors, high pressure oil pump, etc we can to that conclusion and in the caribbean there no ford dealer on the island I already have a vcm but could get it reprogram they said because its diesel and the vcm is not for pickup. Was wondering if there's a vcm just for diesel or some other tool I can buy to do it?

Yes, just for diesel. The numbers must be the same or it will not work.

The numbers on the pump. You may need to remove the pump to see the numbers.

Once you have the numbers, then you can persue the issue with e bay or amazon.
