Recently I have noticed when I start my truck a cloud of white smoke will come out for a few seconds then disappear. I also had to add 3 quarts of oil after about 2,000 miles. Then the other day while accelerating I lost power and the car back fired causing a cloud smoke. Any Ideas?

I have a 2000 F150 and have to add oil. The valve sring seals are bad, but it cheaper to add a little oil than the cost for the repair (seals are dirt cheap, but labor wasn't). Now, white smoke is usually water or coolant, and blue is usually oil. Check your antifreeze level also. You may have more than 1 problem.
