Hi ya'll

I feel pretty stupid asking this. And this is kinda a strange question. We are installing a Digital Video Recorder into my 2005 Ford Excursion to record video incase of an accident for evidence purposes.

Basically, I need to know where is the correct place I should tap into the "vechicle power supply"?

and where the ignition switch sensor line is located to trigger the unit to power on or off.

Note: the unit can be programmed to power-off X ammount of minutes after the ignition is switched off.

Recommend wiring it on it's own circuit with a fuse link in line to the power directly to the battery with and toggle switch. Half the wiring problems occur after someone has either tried to or removed this type of equipment

Suggested Repair

Wire the DVR on its own circuit with an inline fuse link directly to the battery and a toggle switch, rather than tapping factory vehicle wiring.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 2005 Ford Excursion wanted to install a DVR for accident evidence and asked where to tap vehicle power and the ignition-sense line so the unit can shut off after the key is turned off. The expert recommended a dedicated fused circuit straight to the battery with a toggle switch, noting that many wiring problems come from adding or removing this type of equipment.
