1997 Ford Escort brake lite

My brake lights stay on after I released brake pedal.
I have moved by hand the brake pedal back and forth with no luck. I live in a salty environment in the Keys.

Look on the pedal arm, find the BOO(brake on off) switch, push the button in, do the lights go out? If not replace the switch, if yes re adjust it by pushing it to the engine, then pull the pedal up towards the seat.
