How is the best way to change the water pump on this car and can you recommend a website with video of the process?

Hello,

Here is a guide that will walk you through the steps with instructions on how to do the job on your car in the diagrams below. Your will be more involved because you will need to replace the timing belt as well.

My anti-frezze keeps disappearing every two weeks its not leaking under the car. Where is it going? People say I may be headed towards blowing a head gasket. I have already replaced the water pump and thermostat previously before this had happened

Hi there,

You may a minor leak that is hard to see, so I would first get the cooling system pressure tested hot and don't forget the pressure cap, start with the simple things first.

Hello,

The most likely cause is an air pocket inside the engine somewhere. Here is what I do in this situation.

Jack the car up so the the front of the engine is up (will help in getting air pocket out) with engine cold loosen radiator cap so pressure doesn't build, run vehicle till starts to warm up then (if has rpm gauge) rev engine to about 2k till about 3/4 or so of gauge. Turn vehicle off let sit for about 10 - 15 minutes refill radiator. Start vehicle let run to see if still overheats, if does repeat until it doesn't. Had one that took me 3 hours to clear many year ago.

Good Luck

Mark

The engine keeps jumpping the timing. I have had the Tensioner replaced twice. The Oil pump has been replaced. The water pump has been replaced and I just put a brand new timing chain on. Just wondering if you may have a direction to lead me in cause it cranks but will not start.

Is the belt actually breaking in half or is it getting damaged such as a tooth, cracked...? As far as timing, go to this site:

Let me know.

Did you put cap back on to the first notch or left it off? If left off, refill and put cap back on just to first notch don't tighten completely.

Also did it do it immediately or once heated up?

OK, once it starts to over heat or the water starts boiling out turn car off. Let cool then refill and close everything up tight and run normally to see if over heats, if does repeat a couple more times. And check again to see if over heats.

I had the water pump replaced on a 2002 Dodge Intrepid 2.7; 98,000 miles. The mechanic said the tensioner and timing chain were OK; engine clean no sludge.

After the repair with new pump, thermostat, plugs and oil change. I am getting a tapping/clicking sound from the engine; that was not there before.

I called the mechanic back and he said it was nothing to worry about. The chain just may need to seat with the water pump. He is supposed to be very knowledgeable with this engine; but dosen't sound right to me.

It only seem to start tapping/clicking; after the car has been driven and warms up. I don't want to pay the Dodge dealer $1600 to go back in; if it;s not necessary. Any suggestions? Thanks

Ask if he reset tenisioner see diagram This will be a belt driven engine according to Mitchel 1 there will be no bed in for a belt drive and the water pump, the click may be lifter noise, I would just want to know the hot engine oil pressure, although a faulty timing belt tensioner can make the belt to flap and this may be a similar noise, the mechanic should re check his work to make sure.

Never got past 1/2 on the temp gauge. But today I drive the car 40 miles on the freeway. Went back home and my wife took the car. She went less than a mile from home at a stop light and it went to 3/4 on the temp gauge while at the stop light. She pulled over and it started to cool off to the 1/2 point.

Thanks for the quick reply. When I ask I ask about; replacing the chain, guides, cams and tensioner; he said the old ones were fine and the tensioner was strong.
