AC Leak Problem

Hello, I have been reading posts on the site about A/C issues. I have a 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, 144,000 miles, 3.3 Liter. Last summer the AC went, in that it was blowing hot air, we had it rechagred and our mechanic looked at it and found right where it was leaking, I believe near a weld or joint. We were told that leaks in ac systems can not be repaired. Is this completely ture? We were told that we would have to replaced the whole system, compressor and all, and the compressor works fine. Are there materials out there to stop the leak or at least slow it down so that we could get some use out of it for this summer and maybe one more?
Thanks for your help!

Personally I wouldnt use the stop leak. There isnt a part on your van that isnt fixable or replaceable. If you have a hose leak, take it somewhere else and have that problem fixed. If the compressor is making the pressures it is supposed to and not leaking there is no need to replace it
