I'm not getting spark and I have tested all the leads to the crank position sensor.3 volts and the distributor is getting power. I have checked the plugs and wires. They're fine. I'm stumped on why no spark? I know that ford probes are famous for distributors going bad, but I can't afford a new one at $180.00 or more. How do I check if it's the coil or something else? I have a test light and a multi-meter. Any help is appreciated! Thanks

Good afternoon,

Good picture.

The fact that the tachometer did not move while cranking, tells me there is no signal to the ECM to turn on spark.

I would change the crank sensor and that is the distributor as it controls spark.

Roy

NOTE: The Crankshaft Position (CKP1) sensor 1 is incorporated in the distributor and is serviced by replacement of the distributor.

Crank 1

PURPOSE
The Crankshaft Position Sensor No.1 (CKP1) determines engine speed for fuel injection timing, ignition timing, and emission control.

OPERATION
A six-vane rotor is mounted to the distributor shaft and rotates at camshaft speed. As the rotor passes through a magnetic Hall Effect pickup switch, the sensor creates six evenly (60° intervals) spaced signals for each distributor rotation. Vanes are detected and sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in a pulse wave form.

Crank 2

PURPOSE
The Crankshaft Position Sensor No.2 (CKP2) detects higher engine speeds when the timing belt does not accurately represent the crankshaft position. The input signal is sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and used for adjusting fuel injection timing, ignition timing, and emission control.

OPERATION
The CKP2 signal is generated directly at the crankshaft belt pulley. When the six projections on the signal rotor pass the pickup, a pulse wave form is sent to the PCM.

The distributor is what controls spark. I would start with that.

You are welcome.
