My driver side heated seat comes on by its self and cooks my backside. Sometimes it heats me up while the lights run up and down the heat scale. When it does that it takes me a while to manually shut it off on door. I turn it off but back on it comes. Not sure if it has a short or what? Not sure where the fuse is or would pull it. Would like to stop it until I can afford to have it looked at. One hundred degrees outside and my seat cooks me inside.

The fuse that runs that heated seats also runs some of the HVAC components, the electronic suspension control, and some other stuff, so I would not pull the fuse. Instead, you can disconnect the switch. It should just pop right out of the door and then you just unplug it.

Does it seem to happen more after you open/close the door or just cruising along?
Is it all of the heaters coming on or just the seat cushion and not the back?
It sounds like a bad control module or connection to the module. About the only way to test them is with a bi-directional scan tool to send signals to the modules and see how they respond.

Or if you just want them off and are not real worried about it, go under the seat and find the connectors that feed the power to the heater grids and disconnect them, them wrap some tape over the connections to keep dirt out until you get it repaired.

I have a 2005 chevy tahoe. Both heated front seats won't turn on. Possible fuse problem or something else?

Being an Auto Upholsterer, I have taken many seats, all kinds, apart. Upon removing the cover to perform a repair I have seen many heat grids with burnt wires[some with big burn holes in the foam rubber almost to the point of catching the seat on fire!]. If it's not a fuse and theres power to the plug under seat I'd say thats your problem

Hello All,

My heated seats on the driver's side periodically turns on by itself. Now I don't have to express how anoying and uncomfertable this is in the spring and hot summer. I've already unplugged the fuse for it by locating it according to the manual. Does anyone have other ideas how I can disable it?

Note: I do have a auto-start for the vehicle also. Im not sure if this could be a cause of the problem because the vehicle starts on its own sometimes as well. I am really concerned about the heated seats tho. Thanks in advance.

Hi otalley1,

Thank you for the donation.

The heated seat system incorporates a computer system and a scan tool would be required to retrieve for trouble codes to proceed with rectification.

Possible fault is the driver seat or door module.

Does the switch indicator still work? Does the seat cushion's blower motor come on for at least a couple of seconds?

When I push the button the light comes on and you can tell it is starting to heat up and then after about 1-2 minutes it shuts off. As far as a blower I guess I cannot hear anything when I try to turn the seat on - I guess I didn't know it had a blower. One time it actually stayed on altogether but every other time it turns itself off.

Ok, seems like your DSM is faulty, the DSM is the driver seat module that controls the seat heater.

When the drivers side heated seat is turned on it only stays on for about 30 seconds and then shuts off the passenger side stays on provided the drivers side is off but if the drivers side is turned on they both shut off after 30 seconds. I have disconnected the throttle pedal position sensor and tried it and they did the same thing.

GM has a lot of problems with their heated seats. The most common problem is with the control module under the driver's seat. This module works on a "resistance timer" that controls the length of time the heat is turned on. You may want to have this module checked.

Hi, I was wondering if you had any suggestions as to why the drivers side heated seat turns itself off after a few seconds of being turned on?

This is a stupid question and I hope I dont insult you, but when you drive do you rest your arm and hand on your arm rest on the door? GM had a bulletin for heated seats coming on from customers bumping the button when they hit a bump with there arm resting on the arm rest. They came out with a replacement so the button sits farther in the door panel. Just an Idea for ya to consider. If you dont think that is the problem have the system check with a code scanner. Other wise I have seen those buttons stick internally causing the heated seats to come on when you hit a bump.
