My van will start but if I shout it off it will not start for a while. It seams that if I do not let it set for long enought it will not start. I can dumb a load of starter fluid and it will not start. Leave it along for around 5-10 min and it starts? It seams like the more I crank on the motor to start the longer I have to what.
There really is not the smeil like it, s flouded.

When the vehicle refuses to start, do you have spark at the plugs, with the engine cranking? Have a helper crank it, while you check for spark. Just pull a plug boot, use a spark tester or a known good plug in the boot. If you use a spark plug, you need to ground the metal part of plug to metal part of engine. A spark tester usually has a ground clamp on it.

If there is no spark at the plugs during cranking, my first thought was the crank sensor, but, you need to do some testing to be sure.

Are there any codes?

Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Chevy Astro Two Wheel Drive Automatic 160000 miles

After a night of sitting, the only way I can start the van is if I spray gas into the carberator. I have to run and slide the air system back on or it will cut off. It will start back up after that and it runs fine. It gets harder to start after an hour or two. And won't start the next day.

If you have the spider fuel system, use a gage and check fuel pressure, when the problem occurs, key on engine off. 60--66 psi. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan out a gage, if you don't have one. Maybe the fuel poppets need cleaning, I don't know if injector cleaner in the gas tank will help or not. The best cleaning procedure is a shop procedure, if applicable.

Will a Astro Van refuse to fire if you are almost out of gas. It was running fine and needed gas badly and I drove it and stopped on the way to get gas and when I came back to start nI had no fire at all. The lights would not even work but when jumped it would run awhile then quit. It has been running fine but it's never been this low of fuel. Could that be the problem?

Check and test the alternator and battery if okay-check the fuel pressure with a guage to rule out the fuel filter and fuel pump.
