Does the control panel switch to 'econ' when the compressor cuts off, auto mode being unselectable? Charging to 40 psi, is that a static pressure, or the low side pressure when the compressor runs? Typically, the a/c system is charged by weight, not pressure. Your system would require 2.0 lbs of refrigerant. The system pressure when static, almost equals ambient temperature, so if it is 40 degrees outside, and the system is not running, then the pressure may read 40 psi. What does the pressure do when the compressor cycles on? Assuming you are tapped to the low side, it should drop. If it drops too fast, and below 20 almost to zero, then it may be undercharged. Does it display a message on the info center, perhaps A/C OFF-LOW REFRIGERANT, or SERVICE A/C SYSTEM?

I would be curious to see what the pressure does when you raise the speed. Also, do you know how to access your on-boards and check for trouble codes. If you press off and warmer on you climate panel, after a few seconds it should go into a segment check. After this check it will start displaying codes. Record the codes, particularly ECM, and ACM codes. See if that shows anything.

Disconnecting the battery for a few minutes will reset the computer but whatever shut it off in the first place has to be resolved ASAP or it will set the code and shut down again.

If it is operating in 'auto' mode, it will change mode positions based on requested temperature vs in car temperature. At approximately 75, it should be blowing out of dash outlets and continue as cooler temp are requested. As warmer temps are requested, it should blend toward the floor. Improper operation could be from faulty in-car sensor readings, low refrigerant, or possibly a programmer issue.

Air Conditioning problem
1995 Cadillac Deville V8 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 150K miles

When I first turn on the a/c, it may or may not blow out of the a/c vents. If it does, the first bump we hit, or acceleration and the a/c will blow only out the defrost vents at the front windshield, and there it stays. I have had the car at the Cadillac dealership, and two differenc a/c specialists, they say they have never seen this problem before, and don't have a clue. I am helpless. Have you ever heard of this, and what could cause this. Cadillac said they checked the whole a/c system, and all of the modules. I am on disability and really can't take the heat here in Florida.

Hello,

The charge hose will only fit the low pressure/charge side of the system.
In some systems the Low Pressure side cap is Blue. It is also smaller than the High Pressure side.

Air Conditioning problem
1994 Cadillac Deville Automatic 170000 miles

I recently bought a 1994 Cadillac Deville, and the previous owner told me that the car needed a fuse for that a/c to work. It's a good thing I work for an air conditioning company. Lol. So we changed the fuse, the compressor came on. For a second. The fan never came on and after running it for no more than 2 miniutes, the fuse blew. My tech says that its the fan. Can u help?

I have a test light called a Power Probe that comes in handy for these cases. It reads the circuit for power and ground but also has a circuit breaker installed for overload conditions. In this case I would connect it to the battery and run the cooling fan to see if the circuit breaker trips determining a bad fan motor.

Use caution with this method. When the vehicle is cooled down unplug the fan motor connection and set an industrial fan in front of the vehicle. If you new fuse fails to blow once the engine is warm, you can suspect the fan.

I also have an inline circuit breaker that can be installed in the place of the fuse and makes a buzzing noise when the circuit overloads. This would be helpful as the fan motor or a/c compressor can be momentarily unplugged during the buzzing. The buzzing would stop and you could again suspect the fan motor.

Good Luck.

Have 93 sixty special Cad. LED on ac won't come on. AC blows thru defrost until led comes on. Have noticed when it's cold or humidity is low (not often down here) it will work after car has run for awhile. System regulates to 75 degrees and will work once LED lights up. Fuel gauge does sometimes does the same. Appreciate ANY help I can get.

It sounds like you have a low refrigerant issue. Open the hood and start the car. While the engine idles, turn on the AC. See if the clutch engages on the compressor. Check the relays in the system under the hood. High humidity areas cause electrodes to corrode. You might want to use some rubbing alcohol and an old toothbrush to clean the electrical contacts of the relays, switches and connectors.

I think your issue is electrical in nature and would have to be troubleshooted while the problem is present.

Refer to the attached image. The relays are (facing the engine from the front) at the right rear of the engine compartment.

The compressor coil connector is on the front of the compressor behind the pulley. The switches are the ones on the dash you use to control the A/C.

The a/c and fuel panels are controlled by the bcm. One can short the other out. You need to remove both panels. Then unplug the a/c panel connector to see if the fuel panel lights up. If no plug the a/c panel back in. Then remove the fuel panel connector and watch to see if the a/c panel lights up. When either panel lights up the other one is bad. Gl
