I own an acura tl 2.5 and mechanics suspect a blown head gasket however, they said they will not know for sure until they break down the engine, and also that it might be a cracked head which could get very expensive. How can I get my car fixed without being ripped off when they might tell me the head is cracked when it may not be?

You will have to trust your mechanic. Or strip the engine yourself and send the head to be pressure tested yourself? 8 out 10 times it will be the gasket. But it is not unknown for the head to crack. Aks your mechanic for a damage report from head testing company?
