Hi Joe,

So, i did the smoke test. I later learned I did it wrong but it did lead me to discover that the vapor canister purge valve was stuck open. I took my old canister purge valve off. All the ones that were listed for the 2017 Elantra did not look like my purge valve. So, i did some homework and ordered the BeckArnley 0460107. Did I order the correct part?

Biggest fan? LOL Well, that feeling is mutual.

As far as the part number is concerned, it appears to be correct. I checked it on Amazon's cross-reference chart, and it indicates that it is correct.

If you are getting it from Rockauto, remember to use the discount coupon.

Let me know.

Joe,

My purge valve came in today! I put that bad boy in and said a prayer. Holy Guacamole. No check engine light came on. I thought it was too good to be true. So, i hooked up my obd scanner and drove it for a few miles. Then i entered all the ranges in CHATGPT and the car was given a good bill of health. lol. I'm in shock. Can it really be fixed? It still has the rough start it cranks for about 3 seconds before it turns over, but it drives really well. Thoughts on that?

Cheers!

Hi,

That's great news. See why you're my biggest fan? LOL Absolutely, that may have taken care of the problems. If the light didn't return and it seems to be running better, it sounds like you took care of the issue.

You take good care of yourself, and since you said Cheers, I suspect you are in a different country. LOL If the weather there is nice, I envy you.

Let me know if anything changes or if I can help in any way.

Cheers!!!

Good Ole Ohio! We are having perfect weather to work on cars rucks ractors. I think instead of taking the John Deere to the dealer for its maintenance I'm convinced i can do it myself. Wish me luck.....do you offer tractor advice? lol.

Hi,

Ohio? Ha, I'm near Pittsburgh. LOL Not too far. As far as tractors, normally no. But, I would be happy to give it a shot. I worked on a lot of them over the years.

Take care of yourself and don't work too hard.

Hi,

Great to hear from you!

Good Lord. That didn't last long. LOL Do you hear it prime? Have you checked to make sure there are no faulty fuses, or the relay has failed?

Let me know.

I thought since it started with starter fluid that I was in the clear with fuses and relays but maybe not? Can you tell me how to check them?

Hi,

I just read through the schematics and the fuel pump relay and fuse are integral to the PCB. PCB stands for printed circuit board and is not serviceable.

As a result, we need to test a different way. We need to determine if there is power making it to the pump, but before you do that, I want to check fuse B+5 fuse in the engine room junction box. This is a 60-amp fuse that supplies the PCB with power. If you look at pic 3 below, I attached a pic of the under-hood fuse box and circled the B+5 fuse.

Here is a link that explains how to check/test the fuse:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

If that fuse is good and has power to and from it, the next thing to check is if the pump is getting power or not. I attached a schematic below that shows the relevant wiring. Note that the gray wire goes from the relay to the pump. That is the wire we need to check.

Let me know if you are comfortable performing these things. Also, if you plan to test for power at the pump, you will need a helper. With a test light probing the gray wire, a helper will need to turn the key because the power supply with the engine off is only to prime the system and lasts a second or two.

Let me know.

So, my last response did not update! I tested to make sure the pump was getting power, and it was. I ordered a new fuel pump and put it in. The car starts again but i am not driving it until i figure out what is ruining the fuel pumps. I have an appointment at a garage for April 24th. If i figure it out before then i get to keep my monies. :) My guess is i need to test the fuel pressure?

Hi,

Was the replacement the same brand? Also, was the fuel filter replaced?

Let me know. Also, let me know how the vehicle is presently running for you.

Take care and thanks for the update.

The vehicle is currently running for me. The fuel pump is a high-pressure fuel system that contains a filter and the pressure regulator. The first pump i bought was a used OEM. The second and third ones were "aftermarkets" and two different brands. Good to chat again.... not good for a broken car. Lol.

Nothing to fear but fear itself. LOL There could be something restricting the fuel that is causing the pump to work too hard. However, I suspect the problem is the pumps. Which ones did you have?

Regardless, it may be a good idea to have it checked just so you are more confident.

Let me know what the shop says to you. I'll try my best to help from my end.

Hi,

I can certainly understand why you have concerns. When you take it, let me know if the shop is able to find any issues that could be the cause.

Also, when this happened, let me know how the pump was checked to confirm failure.

Let me know.
