1. Open trunk and remove fuel pump access cover. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. 2. Remove fuel tank filler cap to release fuel tank pressure. Disconnect fuel pump and sender harness connector. Disconnect high-pressure and fuel return lines at fuel tank. Cover high- pressure hose connection with shop towels to prevent fuel leakage. Remove fuel gauge sending unit retaining screws and remove fuel tank sending unit assembly from tank. Remove fuel pump from sending unit assembly. Installation (Sonata, Tiburon & XG350) Install fuel pump to gauge sending unit assembly. Install fuel pump and gauge sending unit assembly into fuel tank, using care not to pinch "O" ring. Reinstall retaining screws. Connect pressure and fuel return lines to fuel pump and carefully tighten fittings to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure fuel lines do not twist or bend. Energize fuel pump and check for fuel leaks. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Page 1 of 1 3/27/2010 ...The specs are ft. lbs:

I have a 04 hyundai sonata
Today it just died driving down the road. I could not hear the fuel pump working. So I had towed home pulled pump and tried jumping it out of car. I worked fine. I then thought could be the relay but It "clicks" and have power to pump. What else can this be. The pump will not run in car but will on bench?

Did you test the power supply to the fuel pump?
Fuel pump would only prime and stop when ignition is turned on. You need to crank the engine to get it running.

A failing fuel pump might work after being removed and reinstalled but it would fail again later on.

My car was not starting and I thought it was because my timing was off so I replaced the timing belt and fuel pump also and now it still won't start and stay on. There is no power to the back and I'm trying to find the fuel pump relay if it even carries one. I need help on what to test out?

OK the fuses are good under hood and car was resreset so has no codes stored in vehicles modules. Tested power with a light tester on fuel pump and no power going good back there nor is there fuel going to the engine when I start and crank the car. So memeet step I believe is the relay which is the same as ecm correct?
