Cranks no start

It cranks but does not start. The people we bought it from said they replaced the fuel pump and filter new spark plugs as well she said. It needed a coil pack. My husband works on cars and still has not figured it out. He took the distributor off tonight and checked. It, he said it looked like part of it had been replaced but that it does not look like its getting enough of a spark to start it just to crank it.
