Have had evaporator issues, would not start after I let it sit a day without starting. Replaced purge valve on top of engine, still problem. Still evaporator codes came up. Turned wrenches for over twenty two years. Know what I am doing but was away from cars for over ten years I bought this as third owner clean underneath no leaks ran great four wheel works good. Was in family. Been running funny last few days it ran missing power not taken gas. Put gas in it last Wednesday almost did not make it home. The
pump was real slow like fifteen minutes for $10.00 worth of gas. We had a lot rain that week, did not stop at station Tuesday cause tanker was delivering. So I got gas Wednesday. I thought water was in gas, yes there was drained tank. Put high test in tank. Drained through gas filter checked pump and it shot gas out. Poured gas down body and it start until gas ran out. Also replaced cap and rotor. Wires are right. Getting gas now but will not fire and stay running, its not smooth when it dose fire. Checked fuses. Never been this stumped! Is it possible timing jumped? How do I check no one top dead center look at rotor position? Can someone give me direction? Thanks, Cannon.

Check your actual fuel pressure with a gauge. You should see 55 psi. If it is good make sure spark is good. Have seen the coil wire short out on transmission dipstick tube. If that is okay then you will need a compatible scan tool to test the injectors. The spider design fuel injection has always been a problem for these vehicles. Either the poppet valves stick close or stay open and flood the engine. Hope this helps you out.

The fuel injectors are underneath the upper intake. You need a scan tool to test the injector balance. With the fuel gauge still installed you activate each injector and measure the pressure drop on each injector. If the pressure does not drop then the poppet valves are stuck closed. If either one drops too much then that injector/injectors are leaking. GM had a lot a problem with this design that a new updated injector assembly was made.
