97 nissan the car will start if I hook up a charger then boost it with the 60 amp booster otherwise it won't start. The car would not start I thought it was the battery I charged the battery and then hit it with a 60 amp boost and it started drove it for 30 miles then left it for an hour turned off it would not start again I checked the alt. And it showed it was charging at 14.6 volts then I installed a new battery and the car still won't even turn over when I tried it just made a noise that sounded like a clock ticking I have power from the battery because the lights and radio and such things work like normal. Could the alt. Be somehow discharging the battery while the car is turned off? Would you change the alt. Or the starter. It has had issues where we had to shake the steering wheel a little bit before it would start in effect shaking the steering column could it be the ignition or does the batter have a flat spot?

Well if battery is fully charged then alternator is doing it's job. Then starting with a 60 amp boost tells me the starter is drawing way too many amps.

Now if it is charged and you shut it off and an hour later the batt is low. Then we have a pretty good draw this could be the voltage regulator stuck in the on position and yes this will drain the batterry quickly.

So if batt is staying charged then I would replace the starter.
Wiggleing the coloumn will have no effect on this problem, but could have a bad ignition switch.
