Blower motor does not work

I have read up on this and cant find any specifics close enough to be sure. My blower does not work in the front of the truck on any speed but the back does only when the dial in the front (which is normal) is in the on position.

Could it still be the resistor? Or just the motor, or both?

Hi:
It could be either or both. You need to check to see if there is power to the motor itself. If there is and it doesn't work, then it's the motor. If there is no power, then work your way back to the resister. I will tell you that when the resister goes bad, you sometimes have high speed only.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Joe

Is it the fan stops or does the air flow changed from vents to another selection?

I think the fan keeps working, but the air flow changes directions. This would be the result of a vacuum leak in the system. The system is actuated by engine vacuum. When you press on the gas, vacuum pressure drops. That could cause the air flow direction to change.

The leak needs to be located and then repaired. If you are lucky, you may actually hear a hissing noise under the dash while the engine is on. Also, check around the engine intake for damaged or broken hoses.

Heater problem

After replacing fan switch, resistor and blower motor, I still don't have any air blowing up to the defroster, panel or floor vents. Blower motor is working, (i can hear it), but no air flow. Is there something that controls the opening and closing the vent doors that I have missed?

AIR MANAGEMENT DOORS
Air management doors are controlled by vacuum control motors and an electronic door actuator motor. Air inlet and distribution doors are controlled by a vacuum control motor. Temperature blend door is controlled by electronic door actuator motor.
The electronic door actuator provides a variable number of temperature blend door positions. Temperature control position energizes the electronic door actuator motor moving temperature blend door.
Vacuum control motors are used on both air distribution and air inlet doors. Air inlet and panel/defrost doors use a 2-position vacuum control motor. Floor duct/panel door uses a 3-position vacuum control motor. Vacuum control motors are controlled by engine vacuum through A/C-heater control panel.

Dave, is there one central location or feed that controls the vacuum doors for both heater and defrost that is not hard to get to. Or, is it posssible a vacuum line was disconnected while putting the blower motor in position?

As you already probably know ... this is not an easy system to work on ? I would be checking the black vacuum pipe/hose from manifold see if it has become disconnected the blend door on this and other models seem's to be a constant problem and may need replacing .. but you should still get cold/cool air blowing if that was the case .. from your description your getting no air at all ? but you can hear the blower, I suspect you have something not connected correctly ..

Do you have the 4.6L or 5.4L engine? It makes a difference.

This is for the 5.4L which is most common. If you have the 4.6L let me know:
