Engine Mechanical problem
1989 Volkswagen Jetta 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My daughter was driving to work, and the check engine light flash on and off quickly a few times and the car died. Since she bought the car there has been nothing but issues, well the car did have over 320,000 km on it and now it nearly had 400,000.

She brought her car to her mechanic, and they told her that the engine is gone and it will cost between 1500 and 2400 depending on other things they find.

Bottom line is they first offered 500 for her car, but the body is in excellent shape and the interior is really good with a functional sunroof, so l called and made a offer of 750 which they agreed to, however before we do anything is this worth it, need your advise please and thank you, Catlo

They called my daughter and told her the motor was gone. So when l called l told them it wasn't worth fixing since the orignal purchase price was around 3000.

I asked them what the car is worth. He called me back and offered 500 l thought it was to low, l said 750 and he agreed to it.

If it was me I will leave Dodge City, something fishy and am not fishing-The CEL coming on, not neccesarily means a major engine problem-You need to find out the problem, Who knows its just a $100 dollar to fix it-Mechanics don't usely do this unless there's money to gain on a refix deal-In conclusion its your decision-
