1999 Vauxhall Corsa Two Wheel Drive Manual 60 000 miles

The ignition barrel on my corsa needs replacing as the key keeps getting stuck.

I brought a new one and new key (non official) which was easy enough to fit but found the new key wouldn't start they car. Apparently I have an imobiliser (this was news to me!) That the new key will not deactivate.

Is there any way around this other than taking my car to a Vauxhall garage. Can the imobiliser be deactivated for example? If I do buy an official part will I still have this problem?

Hello .. thanks for the donation .. much appreciated

Firstly the immoboliser is built into the PCM (cars computer) and there is NO way of deactivating it without the original key code which is built into the original key. Try putting the OLD key on your key ring with the new key and starting the car with the NEW key .. it sometimes works if the old key is close to the ignition barrel when starting the car ??

Secondly.. If the new key was sold as a replacement for the corsa then it may just need to be reprogrammed on a vauxhall (or equivalent) diagnostic computer ... if you are not able to reprogramme this key you can buy a replacement for the corsa (from a dealer or most good locksmith's supply key's now) but this will also still need to be reprogrammed to the car on a diagnostic computer ... the car needs to be plugged into the computer with the new key in the ignition to synchronise them together !!

hope this helps .. let me know
