I had a mechanic work on it, and noticed he had changed out fuel injection and replace with an old one. I worked on it put new heads, lifters, fuel injection, distributor and cap, starter, catalytic converter, fuel pump. Water pump, all sensors on top, new battery, the only thing I haven't done is the crankshaft and timing chain. With all that done it wont start it turns over but just wont start. So now i'm going to go back and see what I missed but need some help. Am I better off just getting a new motor? Please help! I'm not a mechanic but I know some I read the book on the truck and go with what I says but i'm no master.

Hi,

If you haven't touched the timing chain, we will assume the timing is correct. So, for it to run, we need spark to the plugs, fuel, and compression. If you have those and the timing is correct, it has no choice but to run.

The first thing I would like to ask is if possible, record it cranking with your phone and upload it for me to hear.

Also, I need you to check for spark and fuel to the engine. Here are two links that explain how that is done:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

If you aren't able to, see if it starts for a couple of seconds using starting fluid. If it does start and then stall, we have a fuel related issue. If nothing happens, then I need you to check for spark.

Lets start with this. Let me know what you find or if you have other questions.

Take care and God bless,
Joe

Hi, update on my SUV: I did what you suggested also I have spark, it has fuel, I pumped the gas turned key on, turned it off pumped gas again, then tried to start it, it made an awful screeching sound and my friend said that the fan would go and stop, go and stop. I'm at the point I can't possibly put any more money in. But refuse to give up. I realized the crooked mechanic had 3 differentiate size spark plugs in it so I spent another $100.00 today and replaced all the spark plugs. I'm still at a loss. My husband said it sounds like it could be a starter problem. If recording the sound will help I can record it for you tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to help I appreciate it.

Hi,

If you could upload a recording of the noise, I should be able to tell if it's the starter.

I will watch for your reply.
