I have a 96 toyota tacoma 2.7, Last summer we took a trip to the dunes. Half way there we stopped at a rest area. After everything we got ready to leave and my toyota wouldn't start. I cranked on it and it sounded like it was turning over really fast like no compretion. Then it tryed and would stop trying then it would try and then stop trying again. Finally it started, but it started almost like a weak lawn mower slowly getting rpms up, then all of a sudden it ran perfectly. Havn't had a problem sence. That was almost a year ago. Threw the winter had no problem. Could it be like a choke sencer or what do you think it could be. No engine light came on or anything when this happened.

Hi there,

There is no choke on your car, what ii feel happened is that for some reason you lost ignition input to the ECU, when cranking the injectors would still be suppling fuel but with no spark the fuel would just foul the plugs, when ignition started, the very fuel heavy mixture would labour like you said until it cleared it self, now I would still go get a scan done as not all faults will set the light, you may have unresolved fault codes still in the ECU, have this check.

Thank you ! I will have it looked at and see if there is a code. Do you still think there would be a code. That was almost a year ago. And I have never had this problem since.
