When I stop my car, and release the brake pedal, the car won't go,(usually it would go 3 to 5 miles per hour before).
Could that be the idle speed is too low, or the transmission is slipping.
My car is corolla 1993, automatic, EFI.
Thank you.

I am sure you have driven enough to know that if you start a car put it in drive and press the gas pedal the car is supposed to accelerate. If the engine revs up and you don't go anywhere, it's the tranny. If The engine won't rev then you have an engine problem.

Suggested Repair

Put the car in Drive and press the accelerator. If the engine revs but the car does not move, the transmission is slipping. If the engine will not rev, the problem is with the engine rather than the transmission.

Conversation Summary

The owner of a 1993 Toyota Corolla automatic asked whether the car failing to creep after the brake is released means the idle is too low or the transmission is slipping. The expert said that engine revving in Drive without movement indicates a transmission problem, while an engine that will not rev indicates an engine problem.
