Engine Mechanical problem
1992 Toyota Corolla 169000 miles

I think this may be due to low oil. I haven't changed the oil for the last 6 months, but it's only been about 5000 miles. The other day the car leaked a good amount of oil and I was going to go get it looked at this week

Last night the car's check engine and oil lights came on briefly. Made it home and tried to start the car and it wouldn't start. The engine was pretty hot, checked the oil and it was dry. Opened the oil cap and steamed/smoke came out. Filled it with about a quart of oil.

This morning I went to see if the car would start and it did so I turned it off and planned to take it to get the oil changed later. However, when I went to go leave the engine now doesn't start again.

It turns over a few times and slowly dies.

How bad is this? What do I need to do?

Check engine light:

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.

Running it out of oil will cause bearing damage, add oil to get it to correct level.
