The guy I bought this car from said the timing belt needs to be replaced but the one that is still on is worn out on the one side. I put a brand new battery in and tried to start it. It cranks as if it want to start but does'nt. I step on the gas a little while turning the key and smell the odur of gas a bit. Is there anything else that could be the problem?

For a start replace the timing belt before you end up with major repairs
