2003 Camry Head Bolts

03 Camry 4 cyl., auto., 150K miles.

Coolant suddenly began leaking very badly from back side of engine. Occurred after parking in garage after long high speed drive over holiday. Engine did not get hot.

Mechanic thinks it is aluminium head bolt thread inserts working loose from block.

Recomends replacing engine with used engine. Says cost will be about the same as repairing this one and will have 12 month/24K warranty on used engine.

Quoted price of $3866.16.

Is this sound advice??

Right now it's only a guess, you need to take the head off to see such a problem, it could be a cracked or warped head, and would cost way less....Problem is they will charge you to rip it apart to find out...
