I have a v8 Magnum engine. It kept jerking really bad on my way home then it cut off and will not start. Turns over but will not start. Replaced fuel pump, engine coil, plugs, wires, battery, timing chain, distributor and it still will not start.

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.

First, I need to know the correct vehicle. The Dakota was introduced in 1987. The V8 Dakota was introduced in 1991 and that was a 5.2. so I am not sure where to start. Also, if possible, let me know if it is getting spark and fuel. An easy way to eliminate one of these is by checking to see if it will start for a couple seconds using starting fluid. If it does, then the problem is fuel related. If it does not even try, then chances are it is spark related.

Here are a couple links that show how to check spark and fuel:

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,
Joe
