I hear a rattling noise in the front end when I am in drive and my foot is on the brake, every time I stop at a red light. The noise goes away when I switch to neutral or reverse or take foot off brake and give it gas. I recently had a repair of my ABS, new front struts, oil change, air filter. What will cause this rattle? I only hear it, the car does not shake.

Good evening.
I would check the dust shields for the brakes. With all the work performed it is possible the shield got bent and is hitting the rotor and rattling.

A brake problem? I was wondering if it could need spark plugs? Would that cause a rattling sound when I am in drive but stopped at a red light? That is the only time I hear it.

Sorry, thought it was while you were moving.

Did they do anything to the catalytic converter? There is a shield around it that gets loose and gives a rattling sounds especially at idle.

The catalytic converter was never mentioned. What should I ask them next visit? Or should I just describe the rattling?
